FLUTE STUDIES

The flute studio at Sac State’s School of Music offers students the opportunity to pursue Bachelor of Arts, Bachelor of Music, and Master of Music degrees in flute performance. There are many performing opportunities at Sac State including the Symphony Orchestra, Symphonic Wind Ensemble, Concert Band, Marching Band, and various chamber ensembles. In addition to taking individual lessons, students also study flute chamber music, flute pedagogy, orchestral excerpts, and special topics such as performance anxiety, shakuhachi, and extended techniques for tone development, in a weekly studio class. Flute majors are encouraged to perform frequently and participate in research activities. Prior to acceptance into degree programs, students must pass an entrance audition. The following list includes suggested solo works. To discuss other acceptable audition literature, contact Dr. Cathie Apple at (916) 317-2149 or cathie.apple@csus.edu
