Quarantine

I don’t need to tell you what’s going on, you’re living it just like I am. Which, in a weird way, is somewhat comforting. We’re all in it together. Except that we can’t BE together.

A couple of Thursdays ago, I (and five thousand of my closest friends) watched the live stream of the Philadelphia Orchestra performing Beethoven’s fifth and sixth symphonies. I watched it on Facebook with the comment stream on and it was so overwhelmingly positive and full of such gratitude, I couldn’t help but think we just might make it through all this. It came at the end of a particularly bad day that had been full of gig cancellations and gym closures that decimated my income, and other various bits of bad news that decimated my psyche. I needed music and the music community, and they were there for me.

There have been lots of positive things that have happened since then, lots of little reasons to smile (or laugh just a little maniacally…my facebook friends have a wonderfully weird sense of humor), and I try to keep my focus there for the most part. One thing that has really helped is morning yoga. I’m used to getting up at 5am to teach my various fitness classes and that hasn’t changed during the lockdown. So, I decided to put those early morning hours to good use. I’ve been live streaming on my facebook page a one-hour yoga class every morning at 6am, Monday through Friday, from my garage. The videos stay up on facebook for a while, so you don’t HAVE to join me live if 6am is not your thing. Also, if you’re not on facebook, I’m uploading the videos to my YouTube page as well (I missed the first few before I figured out how to do it). So, if you think a little yoga would help keep you on the positive side of things, join me!

And, thanks!
